Every time Xiaomi announces a new Android phone with awesome hardware and a killer price, we have to remind ourselves that the Chinese company still isn’t selling its smartphones in the U.S., which always stings a little bit. Thankfully, it looks like that may finally change.
“We’re looking forward to entering the U.S. market sometime in the near future,” Xiaomi’s head of global expansion and former Googler Hugo Barra said in an interview with Bloomberg. However, Barra also noted that the company still hasn’t set a date for the launch.
Barra noted that Xiaomi already sells several products in the U.S., though that doesn’t include any mobile devices. He also promised that another gadget, which the company has already announced, will be available in the country starting in October. We’re guessing it’s the Android TV-powered Mi Box, which was officially unveiled back in May, but it could also be the new Mi Notebook Air laptop.
Barra says Xiaomi is currently focused on the few countries where it currently operates. That includes India, where the company is “doubling down” after a successful launch. We hope the U.S. isn’t too far behind.
