Xiaomi has confirmed plans for a product launch event on September 27. The company hasn’t revealed what it has planned, but the official teaser offers up a pretty big clue that we could see the rumored Mi 5s unveiled.
The teaser image features a big “S” with the date for Xiaomi’s upcoming event below. That seems like a strong indication that the company plans to reveal the Mi 5s, a rumored follow-up to the flagship Mi 5. There’s still no official word on the long-rumored Mi Note 2, but it probably won’t show up on the same stage.
The Mi 5s should be a pretty exciting device. Rumor has it Xiaomi could incorporate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sense ID for a fingerprint reader embedded right into the phone’s display. It may also sport a Snapdragon 821 chip, a 3,490mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage and a 5.15-inch display.
The rumored smartphone has already passed through China’s 3C certification, though it still needs TENAA approval before it can launch in the country. Xiaomi likely won’t offer the Mi 5s in the U.S., but the company is expected to start selling its Android TV-powered Mi Box here next month.
