See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloRumor has it Samsung’s Galaxy S7 will offer its own version of the pressure sensitive display included with Apple’s iPhone 6s. Now a new report claims Xiaomi may be prepping a 3D Touch competitor as well.
According to Chinese tipster Leaksfly, both Samsung and Xiaomi have patented 3D Touch equivalents. That doesn’t necessarily mean the technology will actually be included in upcoming devices. Still, it suggests both companies are at least interested in copying Apple’s new feature.
If Xiaomi plans to offer a pressure sensitive smartphone, the obvious choice would likely be the upcoming Mi5. We’re not expecting the new device to launch until early next year, though according to Leaksfly it could arrive as soon as next month. That seems unlikely, especially if the company plans to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chip in its next flagship phone.
It’s no surprise that other phone-makers may be planning to offer their own take on 3D Touch, but whether any one company can actually succeed without official Android support remains to be seen.
