Xiaomi’s long-rumored Mi5 may finally launch next month. A new rumor from Chinese tipster Leaksfly claims the new phone will be released in early December, shortly after Qualcomm releases its new Snapdragon 820 processor.
Specifically, the Mi5 could hit the market on December 3. The rumor notes that the release could come just a few weeks after Qualcomm launches its new chip. That could make Xiaomi the first company to ship a device with the Snapdragon 820 onboard.
Additionally, a separate report from MyDrivers claims Xiaomi is working directly with Synaptics to include a pressure sensitive ClearForce display in the Mi5. The new technology is often described as a copy of Apple’s 3D Touch, but actually goes even further. You should be able to zoom, scroll, pan across the screen and even wake up the device by pressing down in different places with varying force.
Earlier rumors suggest the Mi5 could be Xiaomi’s first all-metal smartphone. We’re also expecting a 5.2-inch Quad HD display along with plenty of other high-end hardware for the flagship handset.
We’re excited to see the Mi5 finally unveiled. Even if a U.S. launch still isn’t in the cards for Xiaomi, this new phone could help usher in a new generation of powerful Android devices.
