See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloXiaomi Mi5 rumors and news are coming in just as quickly as ever, but with all the craziness of CES this week we may have let a few smaller stories slide. If you’re wondering what’s up with this upcoming Chinese flagship phone look no further. Here’s all the information that surfaced over the past few days.
Earlier this week Xiaomi co-founder and senior vice president Liwan Jiang revealed some big news on Weibo. In a post to the popular social network he confirmed that the Mi5 will pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor, though it won’t be the first to do so. That honor goes to Chinese competitor Letv and its Le Max Pro.
Liwan also revealed that the Mi5 is already in production, though it may not actually launch for about a month. The device is slated for release after the Spring Festival in China on February 8. So Xiaomi’s long-rumored flagship phone may really be just one more month away.
We also got another look at the upcoming device courtesy of Steve Hemmerstoffer, a French technology blogger with a penchant for leaking new products. A blurry image shows a partially assembled Mi5, including the display and a cutout for the physical home button/fingerprint scanner.

Other rumored specs and features for the Mi5 include a 5-inch or 5.2-inch 1080p display, 4GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter, a 3000mAh battery and Android 6.0 Marshmallow software. It may even sport a pressure sensitive screen designed to compete with Apple’s 3D Touch.
Xiaomi’s also expected to introduce a sleek new metal and glass design, similar to the Redmi Note 3 it announced back in December. Despite all that power and style the Mi5 may still cost less than $400, though we won’t know for sure until it’s announced next month.
