Xiaomi’s Mi5 will finally be revealed next month on February 24 at an event where we’ll get our first official look at the device. The company announced the news with a Weibo post from co-founder and senior vice president Liwan Jiang.
He adds that the Mi5 will be available a week later on Tuesday, March 1. Xiaomi seems to be planning some sort of ticketed system for the first batch of sales, which makes sense considering how quickly its devices often sell out.
GizmoChina, which spotted the news, also notes that Xiaomi may have a few surprises to announce beyond the Mi5. The company has apparently blocked off two full hours for the main presentation. That’s a lot of time to focus on just one device, so maybe we’ll see another gadget or two unveiled on the same stage.
It’s also worth noting that Xiaomi’s event is set to take place during the same week as Mobile World Congress, where Samsung and LG are both expected to announce flagship phones of their own. We’re still not expecting the Mi5 to get a global launch, but it looks like Xiaomi may want to steal some of the spotlight away from its biggest competition anyway.
