Xiaomi Mi Band 2 unveiled with OLED display, $23 price

Xiaomi unveiled its latest fitness tracker, the Mi Band 2, on Thursday. The device features upgrades over the popular and extremely affordable Mi Band, which launched last year, and a slight bump in price — though one that still won’t break the bank.

The Mi Band 2 features fitness tracking, a heart rate monitor, a sleep tracker, a small front-facing OLED display that shows information on each of those sensors, an accelerometer and a hypoallergenic silicone band. That’s fancy talk for “you shouldn’t get rashes from wearing it.” (Cough, looking at you, Fitbit.)

A quick lift of your wrist will activate the OLED display, showing you the time, your heart rate, or step count. You can also tap a button to navigate through those options. Xiaomi says it improved several features, too, including the accelerometer, which features “improved algorithms for more accuracy in steps counting” and second-generation Bluetooth 4.0 for improved cellphone connectivity. It’s also IP67 water and dust resistant. Finally, Xiaomi says the device will last up to 20 days on a single charge, which is impressive given the relatively small 70mAh battery.

“But Todd, how much will this fancy thing cost me?” you ask. Just $23, according to Xiaomi, which also noted sales begin on June 7 in China followed by a broader rollout.
