Last week, Xiaomi started teasing a virtual reality product apparently set to debut on August 1. Now it seems the company may wait a few more days to unveil Xiaomi VR, though the first details are already starting to pour in.

Xiaomi VR will officially debut later this week on August 4, according to multiple reports. The company is also offering beta-testing for the new headset, though you’ll have to pay a small fee to join a lottery just for the chance to try an early version of the device. Beta registrations are open now through August 6.

The upcoming headset will also apparently support Google Daydream, according to a report from GizChina citing Xiaomi’s general manager Tang Mu. If that’s true, Xiaomi VR will still rely on a smartphone to power the experience, but it should be much more advanced than the current Cardboard system.

A leaked promotional video allegedly showing Xiaomi VR also surfaced online this week, showing the device in action. It looks like you’ll need to physically hold the headset up to your face to use it. If the new product really does support Daydream, it’s should also ship with a head strap for prolonged use.

We hope to have all the details later this week when Xiaomi officially unveils its first VR product.
