See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloXiaomi’s rumored Mi 5s might be a close follow-up to the Mi 5, but it could still pack in some exciting new features. A new leak reveals the company’s upcoming smartphone might be the first to embed a fingerprint sensor right into the display.
A photo shared on Weibo shows what looks like an internal Xiaomi slide revealing that the Mi 5s will feature an “underglass” fingerprint reader based on Snapdragon Sense ID. Qualcomm’s already detailed the technology, which makes it possible to put an ultrasonic 3D scanner behind various surfaces. That includes glass, plastic or metal.
The device allegedly comes equipped with a Snapdragon 821 chip, a 3,490mAh battery, a 16-megapixel rear camera, 6GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 5.15-inch display.
There’s no word on when the Mi 5s will arrive, though we wouldn’t be surprised if it launched soon, since it recently passed through China’s 3C certification. Xiaomi’s also expected to unveil the Mi Note 2 in the very near future, and it’s possible we could see the Mi 5s debut at around the same time.
