Xiaomi had a big year in 2015, but it turns out the company still failed to hit its own smartphone goals. At a presentation on Friday, CEO Lei Jun reflected on the past year and offered a hint at what he has planned for 2016.

The Chinese upstart originally hoped to ship 80 million phones in 2015, but at the end of the year the final number was just over 70 million. It’s possible Xiaomi could have hit its goal by launching the Mi5 earlier. We’ve been waiting for the device for over a year now, and some customers are likely still holding on to older models as a result.

Lei reiterated that the Mi5 will finally launch next month following the Chinese New Year. The device is set to pack a Snapdragon 820 chip, along with a fresh metal design and a fingerprint sensor.

Beyond smartphones, Xiaomi plans to expand into a few hot new markets. The company announced an “exploration lab” that will focus on virtual reality and robotics. There’s no word on when we’ll actually see any results, but hopefully the firm will have something substantial to announce later this year.
