See full gallery on TechnoBuffaloXiaomi finally revealed its Mi Max smartphone at a flashy event on Tuesday. The device packs a massive display and some solid hardware for a very reasonable price. It also runs the company’s new MiUI 8 software.
The Mi Max pushes the limits of smartphone size with a 6.44-inch display and packs a hefty 4850mAh battery to match. It also offers a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel shooter up front and a fingerprint scanner in back. The device features a sleek metal frame that’s 7.5mm thin and comes in gold, silver or space gray.
Xiaomi’s offering three different versions of the new phablet. For just 1499 yuan (about $230), you get 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a Snapdragon 650 processor. 1699 yuan ($260) ups the storage to 64GB. There’s also a premium model with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a Snapdragon 652 for 1999 yuan ($307).
The Mi Max launches on May 17 in China. Xiaomi didn’t mention any plans for a global launch. It could eventually hit a few other countries, but we don’t expect the device to arrive in the U.S.
Tuesday’s event also put a big emphasis on MiUI 8. The software update packs in a ton of new features, including a Notes app with fingerprint security and a redesigned photo gallery that lets you layer stickers and doodles on top of your pictures. Xiaomi’s new camera app also lets you scan barcodes to buy products online. The company claims you can even scan a math problem and get a step-by-step solution.
Some of the new features in MiUI look like they might be inspired by iOS, but there’s also some original ideas. Check out Xiaomi’s new software in the gallery below.
